Guest: Fuad Fahmy, Host, Magical Kampung Baru Walking Tour
Kampung Baru has sat quietly in the middle of Kuala Lumpur for over a century, a Malay enclave many of us have driven past, eaten in, or visited without ever really knowing. We're joined by Fuad Fahmy, a fourth-generation resident whose great-grandfather arrived from Medan in 1907 and became the first imam of Masjid Kampung Baru the following year. Fuad grew up catching fish in the stream near his home and racing BMX bikes through the kampung before spending two decades in the travel industry, and he's since brought that experience home, founding the Magical Kampung Baru Walking Tour and inviting travellers into his own house for tea the Malay way. He takes us through the sights, sounds and smells of his kampung, and reflects on what it means to keep welcoming the world into the place he once dreamed of leaving.
