First Lionel Messi, now Cristiano Ronaldo. The 41-year-old is handing back Portugal’s No 7 shirt after 23 years, just over two months after Messi, 39, ended his own 21-year Argentina career. We reflect on the privilege of watching two all-time greats share an era, weigh Messi’s 2022 World Cup triumph against Ronaldo’s Euro 2016 and two Nations League titles, and ask whether Ronaldo’s defining moments came for club rather than country.

All that and more, including Manchester United’s dramatic comeback against Roma and Aston Villa’s night at Barcelona, on this week’s Just For Kicks!
